Our training course is rigorous and demanding, the days are usually long, but most of the time, it is also a lot of fun! You will work closely with the other trainees, our present guide core, and even guides from other companies. The rafting community is a unique group of very colorful individuals who come together to enjoy the challenges of running a river, while maintaining as safe an environment as possible by working together as a team.
Each spring we offer "hands on" instruction to interested people
on how to "captain" a paddle raft, which is to guide an inflatable boat downriver with the help of your crew. You will learn to teach your crew to paddle away from obstacles and hazards and safely negotiate rapids and waves. You will also learn to recognize hazards by "reading water" and know how to maneuver your raft to avoid them. Additional instruction will include river safety, basic rescue techniques, river etiquette, environmental awareness, and proper care of rafts and other related equipment. Our course meets and exceeds all criteria for guide training set forth in the current Washington State Law governing whitewater rafting in this state. A certificate will be available to those who complete the course.
River sessions: You will learn to raft by “doing it” starting the weekend of April 27, 28 on the Wenatchee River out of Leavenworth and continue every weekend through May 25 and 26. We will keep the instructor/student ratio low to maximize your learning opportunities. At the end of the course we will have plenty weekend guide work available for those who are interested and qualified, as that is our main goal, to get new guides to hire for our upcoming season.
Becoming a professional river rafting guide takes commitment, a bit of hard work, dedication, and a willingness to constantly learn and improve throughout ones guiding career. But the rewards are outstanding !
People who complete the guide-training course are always welcome to come along on any of our trips during the season FOR FREE !!!
